Year 3
Welcome to Year 3!
Welcome back to our final term in Year 3. We have a long but full term ahead of us, filled with exciting subjects that we hope all children will enjoy and be able to flourish from.
Maths:
In Maths we will be learning about mass and capacity, fractions, money, shape and space, time and data handling.
English:
We will be basing our activities on the following books:
- Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg
- How to Live Forever by Colin Thompson
- Jim, A Cautionary Tale by Hilaire Belloc
- Our Tower by Joseph Coelho
Religious Education (R.E):
We will be reflecting on the big questions of:
- Does Jesus have authority for everyone?
- Can made-up stories tell the truth?
Science:
We will be learning about:
- Plant Nutrition and Reproduction
- Light and Shadows
History:
The Topic of Emperors and Empires will stretch across the whole Summer Term. We will be diving into the Romans, specifically their invasion of Britain and their battles with Boudicca and the Iceni tribe.

Homework:
In Year 3, we expect children to read daily for 15 to 20 mins. Reading records should be brought to school, signed by an adult, at least once a week.
Spellings are handed out on a Thursday and are tested the following Thursday. Please use the LOOK-COVER-WRITE-CHECK method to learn these to the best of your ability. There are 3 spelling groups - Sparrows, Eagles and Robins.
Times tables:
Please learn these continuously. By then end of Year 3 you should know your x2,x3,x4,x5,x8,and x10. By the end of Year 4 you will be tested on all of your tables up to 12x12 as part of statutory government guidance.
Maths and Reading Comprehension:
This homework will always be linked to what we are learning in class as well as the skills we are developing. It is given out on a Thursday and due in the following Wednesday.
If there are any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to speak to us at the end of the school day or drop us an email and we will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.
We look forward to an amazing summer term ahead!
